Navy Reserve Enlisted Medical Programs Naval Reserve Hospital Corpsmen and Dental
Technicians play vital roles in the Navy's health care system. This folder
provides details on the duties, opportunities and benefits available in
the Naval Reserve for these enlisted health care specialists. The Naval Reserve is a force of highly trained
men and women available to meet the expanded Job Description:
Hospital Corpsman Navy Reserve hospital corpsmen assist physicians
and nurses in providing medical care to the men and women of the Navy
and Marine Corps and their families. Such care includes administering
medications including injections, nursing the sick and injured, conducting
physical examinations, performing clinical laboratory tests, taking X‑rays,
filling prescriptions and maintaining pharmacy stock, and serving as operating
room technicians. They also perform medical administrative and clerical
functions. Job Description:
Dental Technician Navy Reserve Dental technicians assist Navy
dentists in providing quality dental care to the men and women of the
Navy and Marine Corps and their families. Their duties include assisting
in oral surgery, preparing dental materials and medications, giving emergency
dental first aid, instructing patients in oral hygiene, serving as dental
X‑ray technicians, preparing appointment schedules and maintaining
dental records and storerooms. Qualifications Age: Prior service veterans, as well as qualified
civilians, wishing to affiliate with the Naval Reserve must not have reached
age 42. The age limit may be adjusted on a month‑for‑month
basis for previous military service. Physical: Must meet standard Navy medical requirements. Marital Status: No restrictions. Test Scores: Civilian applicants and veterans of other services must achieve qualifying
scores on the Armed Forces Aptitude Battery Test (ASVAB). Rate (Prior
Service Veterans): Navy veteran hospital corpsman's or dental
technicians' previo Veterans of other services whose Military
Occupational Specialty (MOS) is compatible with the Hospital Corpsman
or Dental Technician rating are eligible to apply for re‑enlistment.
Paygrade is based on the applicant's professional experience and current
Navy policy. Civilians: Advanced paygrades are offered to qualified applicants based on their
medical and dental training and experience. Opportunities exist for many
types of medical specialists, including licensed practical nurses, paramedics,
EMTs, X‑ray technicians, operating room technicians, laboratory
technicians and other medical specialists with extensive patient‑care
experience. Dental Technician openings include dental
hygiensits, dental assistants and dental laboratory technicians. Qualifications Age: Prior service veterans, as well as qualified
civilians, wishing to affiliate with the Naval Reserve must not have reached

at local Navy Reserve centers, naval hospitals, air stations, other medical
facilites and occasionally on board ships or overseas. Other training
may take place in field training exercise in support of the Marine Corps
or the Navy Construction Battalions (Seabees). Advanced training for hospital
corpsmen and dental technicians is available. RAMP Program The Reserve
Allied Medical Program is a Naval Reserve enlisted medical
technician scholarship program. It offers qualified HMs an DTs the opportunity
to pursue a college degree in an area of advanced medical technology.
In addition to the many other benefits of affiliating with the Naval Reserve,
RAMP participants enjoy fully paid tuition and fees. Individuals will complete training in a medical/dental
technology field at a civilian college or technical school while serving
and training part time in the Naval Reserve. Course of instruction may
be full or part time. |
